The Carl Junction Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors responded this morning to the news that the Chamber's former executive director Nicholas Howard has been charged in Jasper County Circuit Court with stealing.
The charges were filed after Howard allegedly used the Chamber credit card for a number of personal expenses.
In the response, Gary Mishler, acting board president said, "As soon as this matter came to light, we took immediate action, including his separation from the organization.
"Since then, the Board has conducted a thorough review of our financial practices and internal controls, and we have implemented changes to strengthen oversight and prevent this from happening again."
Howard's arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. October 7 in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin.
